Bâtonnier George Filliter, Q.C.

Council Member nominated by the Law Society of New Brunswick
George Filliter was nominated as a member of the Federation Council by the Law Society of New Brunswick in 2017. He is currently serving his second term as Chair of the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board, and since 2006 has taught employment law at the University of New Brunswick Law School. Since 2008, he has served across Canada as a neutral third party arbitrator/mediator in various matters.
Mr. Filliter served on the Executive of the Law Society of New Brunswick from 2014 to 2017 and was President from 2016 to 2017. He has been active on many law society committees, serving as Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Advisory Committee and Library Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Complaints Committee. He has also served as a member of the law society’s Human Resource Committee, Bar Admission Committee and the ad hoc Bar Admission Review Committee.
In addition to teaching employment law at UNB, he is a frequent lecturer at the New Brunswick Law Society’s Bar Admission course.
George received his Bachelor degrees in Science and Law from the University of New Brunswick (1974 and 1978) and his Masters of Law degree from the London School of Economics (1985). He was called to the bar in 1978 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2015.
Mr. Filliter’s passion is photography, and he is an active volunteer. He has served as public representative on the governing councils for both the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists.
