Council Member nominated by the Law Society of Manitoba
David Swayze was nominated to the Council of the Federation by the Law Society of Manitoba in 2014. He is a life-long resident of Brandon, Manitoba and a graduate of Brandon University. He earned his law degree at Dalhousie University Law School, and was called to the Bar in Manitoba in 1998.
Mr. Swayze was first elected a bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba in 2008, then served as Vice-President for the 2012-2013 term. He served as President of the Law Society in 2013 – 2014.
David became a partner in the firm Meighen Haddad LLP in 2003, with a practice that focuses on advocacy and litigation, with a specific interest in management side labour and employment law, human rights, privacy, intellectual property, civil litigation and administrative law.
He has appeared before the Federal Court of Canada, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench and Manitoba Court of Appeal, the Manitoba Labour Board, boards of arbitration, and other administrative boards and tribunals.
